Marilyn Monroe photos auctioned for over $350,000

Photographer Joseph Jasgur with Marilyn Monroe

Copyrights and images from Marilyn Monroe’s first photo shoot sold for $352,000 at an auction. The pictures were the highlight of the Beverly Hills Auction ‘Icons & Idols’. The photos come with negatives and the rare right to sell and distribute them. In September a judge ruled that they must be auctioned to settle the debts of photographer Joseph Jasgur who passed away in 2009. A twenty-year old Marilyn, then Norma Jean Baker, walked into his photo studio in 1946 with no money, but the ambition to become a model. The photos include a black-and-white headshot of the future Ms Monroe wearing a  beret, another of her in a halter top and a colour picture of her smiling in a striped bikini on the sand.
